JAMES B. SMITH - Attorney
James Smith is a civil litigation attorney who focuses his practice on insurance defense, professional malpractice defense, and medical malpractice defense.
Prior to joining Gjording Fouser, James worked for a civil litigation defense firm in Fairfield, California where he focused on personal injury and insurance defense, including wrongful death and product liability cases. Before specializing in civil litigation, he was a Deputy District Attorney for Contra Costa County in California, where he prosecuted more than 20 jury trials. He has handled criminal cases at all stages, from pre-filing review through arraignments, pre-trial conferences, motions, trial, sentencing, and appeals.
After graduating with honors from the Virginia Military Institute, James served as a U.S. Army Officer, with deployments to Korea and Afghanistan. During law school at University of California, Hastings, he clerked for the Contra Costa and Alameda County District Attorney’s Offices, as well as the California Attorney General’s Office. James is admitted to practice in Idaho and California.
- As part of his ongoing IALL legacy project and in cooperation with the local post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, James works to raise awareness and boost funding for the “Patriot’s Walk,” which honors veterans and fallen service-members with bricks laid in Boise’s Veterans Memorial Park.
